Eight-month-old baby with a rash, he is the second child. There is always a strong resemblance to the mother in the pattern of the disease and sensitivity. In the extensive follow-up, we see more clarity emerging regarding the medicine and the patterns of mother and child. The initial impression of the child is a striking cheerfulness. The impression of the mother is: the happy mother, she is joyful, spontaneous, and enjoying herself.
From 4 months onward, after stopping breastfeeding, the baby developed a rash, starting on the forehead, then the scalp, the back of the knees, and the calves started to flake. Two months later, the neck was affected, and now, for a few weeks, the cheeks too. Lately, it can 'flare up', meaning it becomes red, the skin thickens, and feels warm, especially at the occiput, the neck, and thick flakes on the forehead. More on the left side. Also, a loose cough which bothers him a little.
Description by the mother: 'he is an alert child, even in the womb, whenever you spoke or even thought about him, he became active. When you enter his room, he wakes up immediately. He is also a dreamer. Sleeps through the night. He's easygoing. The pregnancy went fine.
Skin: he scratches a bit, but when it flares up, he becomes very quiet, very much within himself.
He didn't have a good start, after a c-section due to a previous rupture. 'He couldn't settle well, maybe due to insufficient feeding, he was so disoriented! He was 'not grounded,' mother could see it in his eyes, and he only wanted to be with her, curled up. At home, he cried a lot, which only stopped after swaddling from 6 weeks onward, we still do it. Now his hunger is insatiable, he eats everything, and the bowel movements are good (indicating good digestion).
It's as if he understands everything, he is cheerful, and he keeps laughing. He is so easy and extremely kind to others. Mother knows this about herself too: she is quiet, observes a lot, and seeks to please.
He never has a fever. In bed, he's immediately calm, he's a 'zen-baby.' Never screams or fusses.
AnalysisHe remains very much within himself, protecting himself well by withdrawing into himself. He is 'not grounded, not landed,' and yet he sees a lot, but does nothing with it.
This striking feature I had seen before in a prescription of Illicium: understanding eyes, receptive and resigned, withdrawing to apathetic behavior, not responding to others, a kind of one-way communication, the only consciousness is within the own body. In this child, it is remarkable and therefore characteristic that this occurs precisely with the 'flaming skin.'
The fact that the symptoms started after breastfeeding indicates predisposition, the body is not yet fully developed. Experience teaches us that this is appropriate for Carbon series: a problem of the body, 'the material,' or a problem that arises in the embryonic Phase or becomes apparent immediately after birth, without new triggering factors. The child is emotionally healthy, but his body is restless, the problem is the body, which fits Carbon series. He lives in his inner world, within his own body, the consciousness is focused here, fitting Carbon series.
The situation: a baby, has yet to start growing, to 'explore' the body and life: Phase 1. 'Happiness, unity,' as a state of being, this is visible in both the mother and the child: characteristic of both Phase 1 and stage 1. Behavior and feeling are natural, balanced, and fully accepted, without further 'being': Subphase 4. During pregnancy, the child was already 'present,' there was (and is) strong contact between mother and child, this also falls under Phase 1, Subphase 4.
The look in the eyes was the point of recognition (Illicium in previous case: a man with feigned dementia, a worried passivity but in his eyes, you could see that he was very aware of himself and the situation, observing life from a different place). The situation fits within Magnoliidae, the above analysis shows that the Phase and class of Illicium are recognizable, and the choice can be confirmed.
Prescription: Illicium anisum MK.
Follow upFirst week: The rash decreased significantly, but after a few days he became very congested, with mucus from the nose, and around the ears he had red skin, and it threatened to become chafed. Big poopy diaper. He gets a cold, first coughing but that cleared up, the second week he got a runny nose. After three weeks: Chickenpox is prevalent at the daycare, most children are very sick, but he is not affected. The spots on the head and flanks are still rough, but it is no longer necessary to change the bed three times a day due to blood and wound fluid. The skin on the hands, neck, back of the knees, and cheeks are now soft.
He sleeps perfectly: he can 'tune out'. Doesn't see anything, doesn't feel his body anymore, and never scratches in his sleep. Mother recognizes this from herself: it's the realization that you inhabit a body, 'I'm not always there,' with the outside world. Struggling to be in the body. I'm a dreamer, it took a long time for me to be in my body. I felt nothing: you see it happen, but it doesn't affect you. I went to therapy later for this. Mother often had headaches and was always tired: because she tried to be someone (what other people expected) to play someone instead of following my feelings. I did that because otherwise, I was constantly in dreamland, quiet and shy, in the background. You see that you want to participate, in a conversation, in what's happening, but it doesn't happen. Not being at home.
This same thing is recognizable in the child: as if he resigns himself that his body can't do anything and watches. He doesn't want to try everything like his brother. He's in some kind of standby mode, with a look of 'I know' in his eyes. Putting in little effort, if crawling doesn't work, he just stays lying down.
The first months he was just laughing and looking at everyone. That decreased when the itching began.
After two months: He progresses in leaps and bounds: he is cheerful, starts babbling, he wants to develop. Suddenly his eyes lit up, as if he was suddenly back. He had that for the first six months, from the moment his intestines started rumbling, he became so 'inward'.
After a few weeks, he gets a cold again, with lots of mucus from the nose; during this cold, the rash flares up again, in the back of the knees and on the face. The neck is calm, behind the ears it's over, and the skin is closed, but still flaky on the face.
His character: he waits and sees, he doesn't make an effort, his brother or people come to him. Meanwhile, he can do a lot by himself, he's very determined. He had an infected middle finger for a long time, but this was not mentioned, it's over now, it was always worse at daycare, and at home, it decreased.
Sleep is extremely good, he doesn't need a sleeping bag for swaddling anymore, and he lies still now. During the day: after being active for two hours, he sleeps again, for 2 hours. He can skip it but then catch up later in the day. He rarely cries. If there's something, he'll scream. In the following years, the child develops well and remains healthy.
Discussion
The description by the mother is characteristic of a prescription from Carbon series, the consciousness is inside the body and the orientation is also inward in the body. This applies as a theme, or as a characteristic, a burdensome or triggering factor, or a resolving ability. What we call the carbon aspect, known from the carbonic salts, appears in Carbon series literally or figuratively as a characteristic. The focus on the body is too strong, the consciousness is limited to the body, or contact with the outside is broken as in shock, confusion, or hysteria. In mother and child, it is recognizable here as a theme, as a solution. The theme of Carbon series also applies here literally: just born, or not yet born, is a situation with the keywords that fit Carbon series: uncertain, a new world, vulnerable, no protection, no boundary between inside and outside world, no orientation in time and space, broken roots, identity not developed. A situation that applies to every newborn, but it becomes a theme when it becomes a limitation or emerges strongly as a burdensome factor.
