Case by Tomáš Výboch.
Boy, 20 years old, Obsessive Compulsive DisorderThe OCD arose after neuroborreliosis, where he used antibiotics for one and a half years. He has a big problem with even the smallest decisions. The psychiatrist diagnosed OCD with borderline psychotic traits and prescribed olanzapine. He had visions of seeing evil faces.
If he goes to do something, he feels that it is a wrong choice. It occurs also in trivial decisions, for example when he wants to blow his nose. He fears that is it bad from the point of view of his religion, that it could be a sin. If the thought occurs to him that he should look to the right, he does not know if he can do it. He is afraid that he might be bad in the future. He is also scared when he leaves the school. He does not know if he can go by bus or by foot. His thoughts are: “What if I am bad and end up like Judas or Hitler?”
His biggest fear is that he will not go to heaven. He is afraid that he will end up in hell.
He does not want to do anything anymore. He just sits all the time. He does not even want to go to the toilet or throw out the garbage.
I asked him what his day looks like. He says that in the morning he dresses and goes to eat. Then he prays fifteen times and just sits. He is very much interested in transport, trains, and bus timetables. He is interested in technology.
He would like to become a priest. His personality is not really developed. He does not have a favourite book or movie. He does not have a favourite colour and does not feel close to nature.
His mother says he is introverted. He is very stiff, not relaxed. He does not like to be the centre of attention or be admired. He is yielding and avoids conflicts. He likes routine, fixed rules.
AnalysisPteridophyta: strong OCD, stiff, likes routine, fixed rules; very unreflective religiousness, where there are rules, and if they are not followed, one is punished.
Silicon series: not functional in working, good contact with parents.
Phase 6: guilty, sinful.
Stage 17: Hitler, Judas.
Prescription:
Dicksonia squarrosa; 3-433.16.17.
Follow upIn a month there was a significant improvement. He is more independent; he can already do some things. He still has obsessive thoughts, but he doesn't let them control him. His mood improved. He started going to college. If he has obsessive thoughts he gets angry and can overcome them. He rates an improvement of 70 percent.
Every month there is a slight improvement.
