English: Northern maidenhair fern; Five-fingered fern.

Region: eastern North America.
Habitat: variety of habitats; favors soils both humus-rich, moist, well-drained; in soils, on rock faces, ledges, with adequate moisture; moist forests.
BotanyFern; 30 to 75 cm; deciduous.
Leaves: distinctively bifurcated; pinnae on only one side; slender, shining black stipes.
TaxonomySeveral species have been segregated from the former Adiantum pedatum: Adiantum aleuticum, Adiantum viridimontanum, Adiantum myriosorum, Adiantum subpedatum.
