Region: dry northeast of Africa, Ethiopia, Somalia, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia; Arabian Peninsula; W. Asia, Israel, Turkey; south Europe, Greece, Spain.
Habitat: deserts, salty soils; warm temperate and subtropical zones; elevations up to 900 metres; sunny position, well-drained soil, very drought resistant, tolerant of salty soils.
Content tannins, triterpene glycosides, flavonoid glycosides.
Use: medicine; flower clusters, when dried, for a pleasant scent of tea, infusion is used as a toilet water; plant for soap for face and body.
BotanySucculent-leafed dwarf shrub or subshrub growing; 50 cm tall; spreading; young parts are greyish, cobwebby tomentose.
