Spermacocoideae is monophyletic. It is placed in
Subphase 2.
There is a strange aspect in the sense that the tribe Rubieae is included in
Spermacocoideae in botany. One would expect Rubieae in
Rubioideae. Or that
Spermacocoideae would be named
Rubioideae. On the other hand it fits with the old placement of Rubioidae in
Subphase 2, as the Rubieae, with the known remedies Asperula and Galium, have aspects of
Subphase 2. That was the reason for placing the extended
Rubioideae in
Subphase 2.
