Region: tropical Asia, Kalimantan, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Sulawesi, Sumatera, Celebes.
Use: wood is heavy and branches are used in building houses. The leaves are smoked with tobacco to relieve headaches.

Leaves: lanceolate-oblong to oblong; 15 to 30 cm long, 4 to 10 cm wide; acuminate, base broadly cuneate, truncate or rounded; chartaceous, often somewhat bullate; margin entire or dentate distally, glabrous; variable in size, breadth, degree of margin tooths; narrowly-oblong, apiculate; lateral veins distant, prominent, strongly arched; broader and more coarsely toothed leaves appear to occur more frequently to the east of the range.
Inflorescence: axillary, solitary or fascicled.
Fruit: blue-black when ripe.
