Region: Southeast Asia; Bhutan, Assam, Myanmar, Vietnam.
Habitat: low and mountain cloud forest; evergreen tropical forests; evergreen lowlands tropical laurel forests; best in fog moisture precipitating almost continuously, cloud-covered for much of the year; subtropical temperate evergreen, or montane evergreen forests, which are a type of rainforest or cloud forest.
Use: valuable timber; oils from wood and bark for perfumes.
BotanyTrees; up to 40 m high; hermaphrodites; slow-growing canopy trees; grow in small groups of trees with a density of up to one individual per five hectares.
Leaves: alternate; entire; elliptical or narrowly elliptical; 10 to 25 cm long, 3–8 cm wide.
