Name: Elemi is derived from an Arabic phrase meaning 'above and below', an abbreviation of 'As above, so below'.
Synonym: Canarium carapifolium; Pimela luzonica.
Region: Philippines.
Content: oleoresin, fragrant resin, sharp pine and lemon-like scent; elemi, pale yellow, honey-like consistency, steam distilled from the resin; amyrin; phellandrene, limonene, elemol, elemicin, terpineol, carvone, terpinolene.
Culture: action on the emotional and spiritual planes.
Use: elemi resin in varnishes, lacquers, printing inks; herbal medicine; seed kernels for food, raw and cooked; seeds for edible oil; pulp can be stewed, somewhat insipid; young shoots, boiled as a vegetable.
