Bixaceae: 3 genera, 25 species; Amoreuxia, Bixa, Cochlospermum, Diegodendron.
Botany: include trees, herbs and shrubs; bisexual; flower five sepals; red, orange or yellow latex.
TaxonomyIn the Apg3 classification Bixaceae is a subgroup with Cistaceae in Malvales. Cochlospermaceae are closely related to Bixaceae. Under the Cronquist system, it was traditionally placed in the order Violales. It is the first diverging line in the Cistales.
In the Plant theory Bixaceae is placed in Subphase 1 in the Cistales.
