Book
Family
IntroductionIt is a combination of Hydrogen, Carbon, Silicon and Iron series and Phase 3.
They feel part of a family and a village but it is only half true. They are unsure about their position and rights. They are unsure whether they can be themselves or have to adapt to others and adopt certain attitudes and behaviour. Often they do things because they think it is expected of them. When it becomes more extreme they do not even know anymore what they want, whether what they do is really what they want themselves or is the idea of the family, group, village. This can lead to confusion, irresolution and continuous doubt. The patient feels confused about himself, does not understand it. They can get guilty feelings. This can lead to a desire for religious relief, a connection to religious groups and sects.
The main theme is a kind of entanglement. There is a confusion about what they want, can or must do. They are often in confusing relationships, where it is unclear who is doing what and for what reason. They have taken on motives of others under pressure and tend to think these are their own motives. Their own feelings and desires are often suppressed, often so much that they do not realise it anymore. There is always a little voice in the background telling them this is the case, but they cannot listen to it without getting into conflict with themselves. It is the double-bind situation. As a therapist one often gets confused with them too, not understanding the situation or problem. Things are so mixed up that it is difficult to get a clear picture. Things are foggy, turbid.
There is a strong theme of secrets. Often there are secrets in the family which give rise to negative effects in the family, mostly unknown to those who are affected. This gives rise to confused states, unknown states. As a therapist one gets the feeling that the problems and complaints cannot be understood, as if one is trying to see through a mist or muddy water. It is as if the whole state does not make sense. This is the same for the patient. Because she does not understand the problem, a solution is far away, as if there is no way out. Often one thinks one has understood the case but the remedy does not work and she comes back in the same state. They often keep secrets themselves, from relatives, society and also the doctor. It is out of shame and a fear of being rejected.
Work, money, businessThey have a strong feeling of duty. They have to do their work and job perfectly, otherwise they will get feelings of guilt. They often doubt if what they do is enough or good enough, if they earn enough and can provide the family with the right things.
Family, homeThey work hard for their family but keep on doubting whether they do enough or the right thing. They keep doubting if others really like them, want them, or that are just accepting them out of duty or convenience. This all comes from feeling bound, mostly by family and social pressure. It can come from their family, a religious group, or their job. They fear being expelled. That was already the threat at a young age and it is internalised. Their place in the family is not well defined.
It can be the situation of a child with a stepmother, never feeling really accepted. A loyalty conflict can arise between the father and stepmother, or between the child and the stepmother.
