English: Delta maidenhair fern.
Name: Greek adiantos, meaning unwetted.
Clades: Formosum; Adiantoideae; Pteridoideae.
Region: South America; invasive in Hawaii, French Polynesia.
Habitat: on forest floors, rock crevices, river banks, coastal cliffs, basalt banks; along trails and streams; hardy down to 5°C; requires high humidity, well-drained soil, bright indirect light, fairly constant temperature; prefers neutral or slightly alkaline soil.
Ecology: susceptible to scale and mealybug.
Use: popular indoors.
BotanyFern; ± 45 cm tall, ± 56 cm wide.
Stem: shiny, dark leafstalks; resembling human hair.
Leaves: triangular fronds; semi-erect in the beginning then droop gracefully with age; 30 cm long by 15 cm wide.
