Region: southeast Asia, Malaysia, Indonesia.
Habitat: in old, rarely in secondary, forests; mostly on dry ground, rarely in permanently inundated places; elevations up to 150, to 400 metres; on yellow sandy clay soils.
Use: resin for torches; kedondong timber, wood for indoor construction, planking, cladding, plywood, flooring, furniture, packing cases, pallets and general carpentry work.
BotanyTree, 60 metres tall; regenerates badly in logged over forest.
Stem: 100cm or more in diameter; broad buttresses 1 to 3 metres high; wood is light in weight, rather soft, light brown, sharply demarcated from the lighter-coloured sapwood, texture is moderately fine and even, grain is interlocked to wavy, the surface is lustrous, moderately hard, not very durable, susceptible to fungi, dry wood borers and termites, seasons slowly, moderately stable when dry, fairly high blunting effect, stellite-tipped, tungsten carbide tools are recommended, moderately easy to slightly difficult to plane, finishes smooth to rough, can be easy to very difficult to bore, slightly difficult to difficult to turn, good for nailing and screwing, gluing is correct.
