Habitat: rainforest; coast, ranges; warm temperate rainforest; poorer sedimentary soils, or on volcanic soils; prefers part shade, well drained, mildly acidic soils; above 750 metres above sea level.
BotanyShrub or small tree; up to 30 metres tall.
Stem: 60 cm in diameter; irregular; buttressed; dark brown scaly bark, tessellated.
Leaves: wavy edged; 1 to 3 main longitudinal veins; alternate; simple; entire; ovate to lanceolate or elliptic; with noticeable hard point, at the other end they gradually taper to the base; glossy dark green above, and paler below; 8 to 15 cm long, 3 to 5 cm wide; sparse foliage high in the canopy.
Inflorescence: umbels, similar to Grevillea.
Flowers: white fragrant; blooming from October to January.
Fruit: seed pods, narrow follicles, 5 to 10 cm long, green initially, brown when mature.
Seeds: many; thin; papery; oblong; 12 mm long; matures from March to June; germinate rapidly.
