Aizooideae: Acrosanthes, Aizoanthemum, Aizoon, Galenia, Gunniopsis, Plinthus.
Tetragonioideae: Tetragonia, Tribulocarpus.
TaxonomySesuvioideae is one of the first spltting off subfamilies of Aizoaceae, togheter with Aizooideae and Tetragonioideae.
Plant theory.In the second version of the Plant theory the above 3 smaal subfamilies are placed together in Subphase 1, in the Order Aizoales in Phase 2.

Inflorescence leaf-like.
Flowers: perianth internally petaloid, externally sepaloid; flower perigynous or very rarely hypogynous.
Fruit: capsule loculicidal or septicidal, often hygrochastic.

Flowwers: perianth internally petaloid, externally sepaloid; flowcr (semi-) epigynous.
Fruit: mostly horn-shaped or winged nut; seeds one per locule, with a short finicle.

Leaves: stipulate.
Flowers: hermaphrodite; bracteate, perigynous; perianth internally petaloid, externally sepaloid, perianth segments mostly apiculate on the back towards the apex; placentation basal or parietal; nectaries shell-shaped to tubular; petals absent; stamens mostly.
Fruit: capsule, circumscissile, aril present, completely covering the seed; nut or a loculicidal or septicidal capsule; aril absent, winged or horned.
Seed: completely covered.
