Region: east Asi, central southern China, Pakistan, northern India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar.
Habitat: rocks on forested slopes, rock crevices, rock walls; elevations from 1300 to 3500 metres; prefers moist, but well-drained, fairly fertile soil in a sunny position.
Ecology: often specially targeted by slugs; immune to the predations of rabbits.
Content: alkaloids; sedine, sedamine.
Use: medicine.
