Region: east Asia, eastern China, Anhui, Zhejiang, central and southern Japan.
Habitat: alpine rock crevices; shady moist forests in low mountain valleys of China; moderately cold-hardy plant; grows well in most soils, prefers a fertile well-drained soil which can be on the dry side; drought tolerant; grows on a wall.
Use: food, more or less edible leaves and young blooming stems; medicine; in green roof systems; ornamental, ground cover.
