English: Leathery grapefern; Leathery moonwort.

Region: Europe, Asia, North America, Greenland.
Habitat: in moist areas, many habitats.
BotanyFern; fleshy, leathery.
Root: growing from a small caudex with thin, corky roots; contractile, for anchoring in the soil.
Leaves: single, emerges directly from the ground; divides into a sterile and a fertile part; sterile part is wide and has rounded or oval-shaped leaflets; fertile part of the leaf has grape-like clusters of sporangia by which it reproduces.
Reproduction: gametophytes develop from these spores in the soil, and are thought to associate with an endophytic fungus like the gametophytes of other members of this genus.
