TaxonomyPolygonales has been an Order in old taxonomies, associated with
Caryophyllales. It included the
Polygonaceae and
Plumbaginaceae. Stebbins classification placed in its own Order. In the
Apg2 classification Polygonales included also
Droseraceae and related carnivorous Families. In the
Apg3 classification Polygonales is included in
Caryophyllales.
In the first version of
Plant theory Polygonales is is placed in
Caryophyllidae in
Phase 6.
Droserales is split off from
Polygonales, both being monophyletic.
Eriogonoideae is split off from Polygonacaeae and placed in
Subphase 5.
In
Plant theory 2 Eriogonoideae is placed in
Subphase 7 as cases have shown them to have that aspect.
Polygonaceae is further split in
Rumexoideae in
Subphase 4, Persicarioidae in
Subphase 5 and
Polygonoideae in
