Genus: 1 species.
Region: central America, east and south east Brazil.
Content: volatile oils.
BotanyTree: ± 4 meters in height.
Leaves are 1.7-14 by 0.7-7 centimeters with blunt tips; smooth on their upper; undersides hairy when young, but smooth when mature; petioles are 1 to 2 mm long.
Flowers: smell like lemon; solitary or grouped in cymes of 2- to 3; pedicel ± 2 cm long; 3 sepals, 4-6 by 4-7 mm; 6 petals are arranged in two rows of 3; young petals are green, developing into white, cream, with reddish-purple highlights at their base; outer petals ± 3 cm by 2 cm; inner petals ± 2 cm by 1 cm and hairy; orange stamens ±2 mm long; 30 to 40 carpels.
Pollen: shed as permanent tetrads.
