Essence: weakness of will because they have lost the right to exist.
Weak willed because they have lost the right to exist
Their own sense of who they are is lacking to such an extent that they feel they don’t have the right to exist. Sometimes a feeling of ‘I have a right to be here’ may suddenly flare up and then they’ll suddenly demand their own space, but soon afterwards they shrink back and daren’t take anything for themselves anymore.
Doubt about the place where they liveSometimes they don’t know who they really are because they don’t feel at home in their own country. They feel that they might feel much more at home in another town or another country. They often think of moving to another, faraway place, but they can’t decide. And if they do decide and go, they keep wondering whether that was the right decision. They might even move backwards and forwards between two places, until they really don’t know where they belong anymore.
Changing ideasThey never have any clearly defined ideas, which is often the cause of their wavering moods. They are aware that they lack a solid base, and yet they don’t want to nurture any ideals of their own. But they feel worthless, not having any ideas, so they might get obsessed with someone else's ideas, which they might exchange for yet another set of ideas at the drop of a hat.
Weakness of will viewed with humourThey can’t bear to be teased, as this makes them feel even more useless. But on the other hand they have the ability to see the funny side of their own weakness and to make a joke about it that puts it all into perspective.
Emigration out of weaknessIn a later stage they might feel so bad about their own weaknesses that the only solution is to emigrate. They want to go to a new country to start again and build up a strong new personality.
