Stem: distinctive curled-up look of the crowded secondary branches shoots when dry; creeps around and adheres closely to substrates; calcicoles; glossy, yellow-green appearance.
Leaves: have longitudinal pleats; usually glossy and golden green rather than matt brown; narrowly triangular; finely tapered leaves; with a nerve and elongated cells; base of the leaf is conspicuously toothed; when dry, they lay like a roof tile on the stems and the branches curl upwards.
