Habitat: up to 1050 m altitude.

when the bark is cut, exuding reddish sap; young branches with very obvious lenticels.
Leaves: elliptic, base rounded, apex acute or shortly acuminate; up to 18 by 10 cm; glabrous or minutely pubescent beneath; often flowering when leafless.
Flowers: white.
Fruit: orange red; round; 5 to 6 mm.
