English: Alpine clubmoss
Region: circumpolar of the Northern Hemisphere: Canada, United States, northern Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, China, Japan.
Habitat: alpine tundra and boreal climates; in mountains, moors.
Ecology: often with Calluna and grasses.
BotanyFern; clubmoss; up to 10 to 20 cm tall.
Stems: grow just under the surface of the ground.
Leaves: hollow at the bases, strobili up to 3 cm long, on female stems.
