Region: tropical Africa, Cameroon, Congo Basin; east Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania.
Habitat: high forest, in deep shade, sometimes dominant in the under-storey, riparian forest, occasionally in swamp forest, on steep slopes of well-watered ground, at elevations from 1,500 - 2,300 metres.
Use: food; leaves, cooked as a vegetable, with coconut milk or pounded groundnuts
BotanyScrambling perennial plant, undershrub, stems 1 - 5 metres long.
Flowers: flowering from June to October.
