Region: Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela.
Habitat: forest habitats, clay soil.
BotanyTree; 30 meters in height.
Stem: 30 cm in diameter.
Leaves: arranged in two rows; elliptical to oval; papery; ± 15 by 6 cm; upper surfaces are shiny and variably hairless or hairy; undersides have white hairs, particularly along the veins; 14 to 18 secondary veins, emanating from either side of the midrib; petioles ± 1 cm long.
Inflorescences: axillary; 2 to 4 flowers.
Flowers: yellow; male or both male and female; pedicels ± 10 by 2 mm, with 2 bracts.
Calyx: 3, oval to triangular sepals, ± 5 mm long, margins touch but not fused, remain attached through fruit maturation.
Corolla: 6, oblong to elliptical petals, ± 10 by 3 mm.
Androecium: male flowers have numerous stamens; bisexual flowers have few stamens and 3-5 carpels. Fruit: round; in groups of 1 to 5; ± 3 cm in diameter; covered in brown hair; 3 to 8 shiny, brown elliptical seeds, ± 2 cm long.
Pollen: shed as permanent tetrads.
