Region: Europe, Britain, Norway to Spain, east to Italy Corsica.
Habitat: woods, hedgerows; fields; intolerant of alkaline soils.
Use: tubers, raw or cooked, as a food, flavour between sweet potato and hazelnuts, brazil nuts, with a hot aftertaste of radish.
BotanyHerb; perennial; up to 30 cm tall.
Root: larger tubers, rather small and difficult to harvest, increased by cultivation.
