Name: Wampee; Wampi.
Chinese: Huang pi, = yellow skinned fruit.
Region: southeast Asia, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia; grown in India, Sri Lanka, Queensland, Florida, Hawaii.
Use: cultivated for its fruit, which is a grape sized, fragrant citrus. Its skin and seeds are often eaten along side the pulp, much like kumquat.
BotanyStrongly scented evergreen trees; 3 to 8 m tall.
Leaves: smooth; dark green.
Flowers: white; four or five petals, 3 to 4 mm in diameter; flowering late March.
Fruit: oval; 3 cm long and 2 cm in diameter; contains two to five seeds.
Habitat: tropical or subtropical; susceptible to cold; wide range of soil, best in rich loam.
