TaxonomyCapnodiales orginally consisted of epiphytic Capnodiaceae. Later several families formerly thought unrelated were added. The order now also includes saprobes, endophytes, plant pathogens, lichens and rock-inhabiting fungi. The genus Mycosphaerella is causing several economically important crop and tree diseases. Few fungi can parasitise humans and animals. Piedraia hortae is able to colonise human hair shafts.
