English: Bahamian strongbark.
Region: Caribbean, Bahamas, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos Islands; Southeast North America, Florida.
Habitat: scrublands; coppices in Florida.
Use: bark for tea, and a Jamaican drink, roots tonic or roots drink; fruit edible.
BotanyShrub or small tree; up to 10 metres tall.
Stem: 15 cm in diameter; heartwood is brown and orange-streaked, close-grained, hard, heavy.
Pollination: by insects.
Fruit: orange red; 10 to 15 mm in diameter.
