Habitat: understory of swamp, gallery and mangrove forests, often near the coast, sometimes also in secondary vegetation and along roadsides.
Use: yellow dye to colour cotton.
BotanyShrub growing up to 5 metres tall; branches are clothed with long, spreading hairs.
TaxonomyThe genus Bertiera was described by Jean Baptiste Christophore Fusée Aublet in 1775. The type species is Bertiera guianensis. It is the only genus in the tribe Bertiereae.
