Region: west tropical Africa, Sierra Leone to Cameroon, south to Gabon and Congo.
Habitat: rain-forest, Aframomum thicket; on the lower part of tree trunks up to 8 metres above ground; sometimes scrambling on rocks; stream banks; at elevations up to 1,200 metres.
Use: food, leaves, cooked and eaten as a vegetable; acid flavour; medicine.
Taxonomy: close to Begonia komoensis.
BotanyScrambling, epiphytic, perennial plant; succulent stems up to 5 metres long; roots at the nodes.
