Use: traditional medicine, Ayurveda; ornamental, hedge; fruits for a nice pickle; wood for boxwood, engravings.
BotanySmall, much-branched, evergreen tree; up to 6 metres tall.
Stem: branches are usually armed with single, stout, sharp spines up to 2 cm long; wood is yellow, close-grained, heavy, very hard, takes a good polish.
Leaves: deep-green, evergreen; dense foliage.
Flowers: fragrant, dense.
Fruit: many; small; globose; yellow, yellowish-green; 15 to 20 mm in diameter.
