Habitat: lightened, stony thickets; in slopes, cleared bushes, fallow land, stony ground, holm oak woods; basal and mountain floors.
Ecology: host to Zerynthia rumina caterpillar.
BotanyHerb; annual; about 30 cm high.
Roots: many roots.
Leaves: cordiform or heart-shaped; about 5 cm long and a little less wide; with lighter underside, very marked ribbing; covered with small, rigid hairs; rough on touch.
Flowers: solitary; up to 5 cm; tube; yellow, inside from green to dark red when maturing.
Fruit: globular capsule; similar to Cucumis melo.
