BotanyDeciduous, woody, twining climber; 40 to 50 cm long.
Leaves: large, leathery, orbicular, cordate, palmately-veined, light green; abaxilly covered with white hairs.
Flowers: unusual apetalous, calyx resembles a dutchman’s pipe; creamy white; densely mottled with yellow-green and features a contrasting 3-lobed bronze-red limb at the apex of the corolla-like calyx; blooming singly or in pairs from the leaf axils in June-July.
Fruit: cylindrical dehiscent seed capsules; open basipetally.
Seeds: winged.
Dispersion: by wind.
