Name: coronans refers to the circular, crown-like growth habit.

Region: Southeast Asia, Nepal, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines.
Habitat: tropical, humid forests, epiphyte on large trees, occasionally lithophytic; prefers moist, shaded environments with high humidity; lowland and montane tropical forests.
Ecology: provides microhabitats for small organisms.
Use: ornamental, for decorative, large, architectural fronds, in botanical gardens; medicinal.

Rhizome: thick; creeping; covered with dense, golden-brown to dark-brown scales; shape of a creeping animal
Leaves: dimorphic; sterile one are broad, shield-like, overlapping, forming a base collecting organic debris and water; fertile leaves are long, pinnate, deeply lobed, leathery, up to 2 meters long, 40 cm wide, dark green on the upper surface and lighter green underneath.
Sori: on the underside of fertile fronds, arranged along the veins; lack an indusium.
