Botany: shrubs, small trees, ± 2 meters; woody mangrove, deciduous; leaves leathery, alternately or spirally, entire, parallel veins; flowers hermaphroditic, in terminal cymose racemous inflorescences, five sepals, fused in a tube; androecium five stamens, attached to the base of the corolla tube; gynoecium superior, five carpels, each with a 1-celled pistil and unilocular ovaries; fuit dehiscent, spongy mesocarp, no aerial roots.
