English: Delicate-laurel family.
Name: from the Greek tetra, meaning four and carpos, fruit.
Clades: Haloragacae; Saxifragales; Saxifragidae; Malvanae; Angiospermae; Plants.
Genus: 1; 1 species, Tetracarpaea tasmannica.
Region: Tasmania.
Habitat: subalpine.
BotanyShrub, very small; evergreen.
Leaves: shiny; small, 25 mm long, 8 mm wide; with prominent veins; elliptic to oblanceolate; petiole 2 mm long; margins serrate or crenate; covered by a thick cuticle, on both surfaces.
Inflorescence: dense; erect; terminal; racemes; 5 cm long.
Flowers: small; white; ovaries superior, with four carpels; bisexual; actinomorphic; sepals 4, persist to the maturity of the fruit; petals 4, white, spatulate; blooming in autumn.
Seeds: numerous; about ½ mm long.
