Habitat: unusual in preferring damp habitats, fen, marsh, swamp, not wooded; prefers moist, gravelly, stonerly soils; slightly base-enriched, wet, stony ground and on streamsides in hilly areas, and in montane, often bryophyte-rich, flushes; altitude sea level to 1100 m, mostly 250 m to 500 m.
