Flowers: elongate; red; resemble fuchsias; tube from sepals, gland-studded, scarlet; petals 4, red petals; stamens red; stigmas protrude far from the mouth of the flower, up to 4 cm long; flowering in spring.
Fruit: berry; red-orange; 1 cm long; covered densely in glandular bristles.
