Habitat: dry sandy soils, at the edge of fields, wastelands, side of roads, opportunistically in vineyards and orchards when not irrigated.
Botany: erect woody succulent, to 6 m tall; spines, developed from stipules of the leaves; leaves succulent; stems enlarged, water storage, angular cross-section.
