Habitat: calcium-rich soil, dry grasslands, rocky outcrops, pine and oak forests.
Botany: perennial herb; flowers intensively blue to violet, silk stalk is protected from the cold by velvety hairs trichomes.
Region: Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe,Hungary, threatened in Slovenia.
