Region: southeast Asia, Assam, Myanmar, Thailand.
Habitat: mountainous.
TaxonomyIt had long been thought to belong in the order Celastrales. In a phylogenetic study Pottingeria was found to be a member of the Celastrales, in a clade with Parnassiaceae, Pottingeria, Mortonia, Quetzalia and Zinowiewia. The Apg3 classification expanded Celastraceae to include all above members.
