Habitat: among rocks in forests in mountainous areas; elevations from 300 to 1000 metres; moderately cold-hardy plant, tolerating temperatures to -15°C; prefers a sunny position, but tolerate partial shade; succeed in most soils, prefer fertile and well-drained soil; drought tolerant.
Ecology: immune to the predations of rabbits.
Content: kaempferol, quercetin, myricetin, arbutin; alkaloids, tannins, cyanogenic compounds, flavanoids.
