Habitat: evergreen, sometimes riverine forests.

Leaves: glabrous.
Inflorescence: elongated racemes. Flowers: 4 to 6 pale green to yellow or white sepals; stamens are inserted outside the lobulate disc; ovary is glabrous, partly sunken in the disc.
Fruit: subglobose; greenish; with a single seed.
TaxonomyPeridiscus was originally described by Bentham and Hooker in 1862. The taxonomic history of Peridiscus and of Peridiscaceae is complex, though it was resolved by molecular phylogenetic analysis.
