Stem: stout, woody, contorted; 9 to 40 metres long, 25 cm wide
Use: food, leaves cooked as a vegetable; tying materials, wiry stems as lashings when building traditional huts.
Region: West tropical Africa - Senegal to Cameroon and the Central African Republic, south to Angola and DR Congo.
Habitat: forests, evergreen, primary forest; open secondary forest formations; gallery forests; swamps; elevations up to 1500 metres.
