Family
English: Golden samphire.
Region: western and southern Europe, Mediterranean, temperate parts of Africa, Asia and Europe.
Habitat: coastal, in salt marsh or sea cliffs across.
Use: young leaves, raw or cooked as vegetable; leaves for pickles; in saline agriculture.
BotanyHerb; perennial; tufted habit; up to 1 m tall.
Leaves: narrow; fleshy; green to yellow green.
Flowers: large flower heads; six yellow ray florets, ± 2 cm across; self-fertile; flowering June to October; smell like shoe polish.
Pollination: by bees, flies , beetles.
TaxonomyIt was first described by Carl Linnaeus as Inula crithmoides. Later it was renamed as Limbarda crithmoides.
