IntroductionOn the one hand, the expansive flourishing, ebullient, growing and spread corresponds with phase 5 and on the other hand there is instability, being twisted, kinking, tilting, not yet in equilibrium, by this excess.
They have to prove oneself. The peer group is important, one has to be able to keep up. One feels compelled to action for example in sexuality or alcohol excesses where one has to drink until one is tilt, or one gets an unwanted pregnancy. Or more in general: one's “excess” can overrule the underlying uncertainty, with all its possible consequences. Or on the other hand the instability or ones uncertainty and confusion prevents that one can fulfill his needs in the realm of puberty, friends, relationships, sexuality.
