Habitat: forests at higher elevations; open and secondary growth, in savannah; prefers a sunny position; wide range of soils.
Use: medicine; wood; ornamental; wood for cabinet making, parquet flooring, tool handles, posts, construction.
Botany
Deciduous tree; open, vase-shaped crown; 10 - 18 metres tall; moderately fast rate of growth.
Stem: 30 to 60 cm in diameter; wood is fine-textured, straight or irregular-grained, surface smooth and not shiny, moderately heavy, hard, very durable even when exposed.
