Region: China, Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan.
Habitat: moist rocks on valley slopes; 1300-2500 m.
BotanyHerb; perennial.
Leaves: basal leaves decussate or spiral, obovate, oblong, broadly elliptic, or orbicular, ± 1 cm long, 1 cm widem, margin entire, narrowly brown lunulate, apex obtuse to rounded, forming a rosette; middle leaves opposite or alternate; distal stem leaves alternate
Inflorescence: stems 10 to 35 cm tall; usually minutely papillate-hairy at base; racemiform, simple or few branched, or paniculiform with cymose branches.
Flowers: pedicels long; sepals narrowly triangular, 1 to 2 mm long, 0.5 to 0.8 mm wide; petals red to reddish violet, lanceolate to oblong, ± 4 mm long, ± 1 mm wide, apex acuminate; stamens 5; nectar scales nearly transversely oblon; carpels suboblong; styles ca. 1 mm; blooming June to August.
Fruit: follicles; ± 3 mm long, including style.
