Habitat: in coniferous forests, associated with spruces and firs; elevations of greater than 600 m; in moist, shady areas with plenty of leaf litter.
Content: phenolic compoiunds, protocatechuic acid, gallic acid, gentisic acid, vanillic acid, syringic acid, cinnamic acid, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, tannic acid; flavonoids; cadmium.
MycologyMycorrhizal.
Fruit body: vase- or fan-shaped; with wavy edges to its rim; ± 17 cm tall, 15 cm wide.
Cap: orangish-brown to lilac.
Hymenium: spore-bearing surface covered in wrinkles and ridges rather than gills or pores; distinctive purple.
